1:4 BalUn 600 watt DIY kit 1.8 – 30 MHz

Product information "1:4 BalUn 600 watt DIY kit 1.8 – 30 MHz"

Complete 1:4 BalUn DIY kit for off-center-fed (windom) antennas, among other things.

1:4 BalUn 600 Watt self-build kit 1.8 – 30 MHz, with solid strain relief. This 1:4 BalUn is constructed from two FT240-43 ferrite toroidal cores. On the first toroidal core a 1:1 current BalUn is built up. It takes care of the transition from unbalanced (coax) to balanced antenna. This BalUn has a fantastic common mode current attenuation of over 30 dB. The second toroid is responsible for impedance adjustment from 50 ohms to 200 ohms. Many BalUn manufacturers only look at the impedance matching but forget to look at the common mode current attenuation. This BalUn scores very well on both levels. Now with a handy mounting plate to attach both ring cores, so gluing is no longer necessary.

The 1:4 BalUn 600 Watt can be used for off-center-fed antennas, among other things. The off-center-fed antenna (windom) is a popular multiband antenna. These antennas have many advantages. The antenna can be used on many bands, the antenna is often easy to place due to the 1/3, 2/3 ratio in the antenna legs. By using a good BalUn, Common mode current are prevented, which also reduces interference from your direct environment. This antenna needs no ground or counter capacitance.

The main reason for using a BalUn is to make sure that the coax cable is not part of the antenna system and that it will radiate undesirable. This has all sorts of nasty effects, think of: interference, EMI, RFI disrupted radiation pattern of the antenna, restless noise level. This last point is because not only does the coax cable’s shield radiate when you transmit, but the shield also works as a receiving antenna.

Copper/Kevlar Antenna Wire
Copper/Kevlar Antenna Wire This antenna litz wire made of copper/Kevlar, is specially manufactured in the Netherlands for use as long wire, endfed, dipole or other antennas. The wire consists of a Kevlar core with approx. 1.1 mm2 tinned copper braid. The combination of Kevlar and copper gives an optimal mix of RF wire and tensile strength of about 50kg. In contrast to the pure copper braid, the length remains stable here, because the braid does not elongate over time. Thus, frequency and SWR remain stable over a long time. The insulation is made of high quality and UV-resistant PE. This antenna wire is therefore durable, strong, still flexible and has with only 14g per meter, a low weight. Ideal for travel (SOTA, IOTA; etc) but also perfect for a permanently installed antenna. Specifications: 1x 0,4 mm Kevlar core 24x 0.25 mm tinned copper. Copper section: 1.2 mm2 Weight: 14 grams per meter UV resistant black PE insulation Total diameter +/-2,5 mm Tensile force approx. 50kg

1 – 30 MHz Common mode choke DIY kit
1 – 30 MHz Common mode filter with bifilaire windings for optimal attenuation There are many types of common mode chokes available, HF Kits opts for a common mode choke with bifilar windings for optimal filtering. This 1 – 30 MHz common mode current filter is optimized for the 80 and 160 meter band. In this case a FT240-31 toroidal core with optimal performance for the lower frequency range is used. The 1 – 30 MHz common mode choke performs very well on the entire HF spectrum. The attenuation is therefore around 30 dB across the entire HF frequency spectrum. This filter is therefore a real all-rounder for amateurs who want to work from 160 meters to 10 meters. Even people who deal with LPAM (Medium Wave) can use this filter. The main reason for using a common mode choke is to ensure that the coax cable’s shield does not become part of the antenna system and will radiate unintentionally. This has all sorts of nasty effects, think of: interference issues, disrupted radiation pattern of the antenna and a higher noise level. This last point is because not only does the coax cable’s shield radiate when you transmit, but the shield also works as a receiving antenna. Because the coax cable often makes a considerable trip within the house, close to interference sources (mains, PLC etc…) It is useful to eliminate these sources of interference. Any way, Good reason to use a common mode choke. The effect of this common mode choke with bifilar windings is difficult to predict. This depends on local circumstances. Think of: antenna type, antenna placement, type of feed line, feed line placement and especially local sources of interference. There are manufacturers that promise in advance a significant drop in interference, however this is not real. There are cases where the noise level decreases by two to three S points, but also cases where the filter has almost no effect. This kit includes: IP65 enclosure 100 x 100 x 55 mm (Polycarbonat) Ringcore Amidon FT240-31 Winding wire 18 AWG – 4x 85cm PTFE 19 x 0.25 mm copper “Silver plated” Toroid mounting plate Stainless steel M3 6mm screws 4x Stainless steel M3 Spring washer 4x 2x PL 259 Chassis 2x M3 cable lug 8x Stainless steel M3 Bolt 12mm 8x Stainless Steel M3 Nut 8x Stainless steel M3 washer 8x Stainless steel M3 tooth washer IMPORTANT! Do not place the common mode choke in case of an End Fed antenna directly at feed point of the antenna.
